Bankstown, Australia
Bankstown, Australia, a city of 170,000 people, is located in the Sydney metropolitan area, 15km by road south-west of Sydney City and 6 kilometres from the main venues of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. It is ideally positioned close to the tourist sites of Sydney and the scenic Blue Mountains. Its proximity to Sydney City also makes it an ideal location for business. The Bankstown area covers 77.78 square kilometres and despite being heavily urbanised has large reserves of bushland with 1,090 hectares of parks and reserves. Bankstown's climate is characterised by hot summers and mild winters.
 
Bankstown is truly an international city with a quarter of it's population of 170,000 born overseas. People from more than 130 nationalities, speaking more than 60 different languages, call Bankstown home. Bankstown is a colourful and diverse place and is renowned for being a progressive city.

In addition to being the location of the US Olympic Committee headquarters for the 2000 Olympics, the city was the site of the cycling events for the games in the coliseum pictured at left. The idea of a sister city relationship with Colorado Springs grew out of this contact because the US Olympic Headquarters is located in Colorado Springs.
Visits have been made by delegations in both directions since the Sister City
relationship was established in 1999.
